To Shampoo or not to Shampoo : How often is often enough

We all need to shampoo our hair on a regular basis-but what is a regular basis for your hair? To set the record straight, it isn’t necessary to shampoo daily, although this is a matter of personal preference. In the past, we would read through a beauty magazine and determine our cleansing schedule based on whether our hair type was normal, oily or dry, but it’s not that simple. Some scalps have all three conditions. So how do you handle that? Your hair texture and styling techniques will play a large role in setting shampoo regimens.

Loose : Because the structure of your hair is fairly coarse and strong, you can shampoo as often as four to five times a week, although OUIDAD Curl experts recommends less

Curly : Shampoo every second or third day with a gentle moisturizing shampoo. This category requires constant hydration-dryness will cause it to frizz and break. Its still important to rinse it daily with warm water, then follow with a detangling rinse on the ends to keep the hair moist and to revive your curls. To prevent buildup and to refresh your curls you can rinse hair daily.

Kinky : Shampoo these tight, fragile curls once a week; or twice, if you are especially active. The type of hair always looks and feels the driest when it needs a good shampoo. Remember, shampooing is a hydrating process because water is the most essential moisturizer.

Skipping a Day On days you do not shampoo, simply rinse the hair with warm water and apply a leave-in conditioner to detangle. Even the sweat from exercise can be rinsed with water alone. However if the natural oils and sebum in your hair build up at a fast rate you may choose to suds up daily.

Curly or Straight what guys love
Rick I always had a thing for curly hair. As far as I can remember, I was always attracted to women with curls, I find it sexy!
- Rick
Paul I really like curly hair but it depends on the girl and occasion/event. I like curly hair when it is well kept, fun ringlets and not frizzy waves. It is a fun and youthful look. Curls give body to the hair and add flare to a person's look.
- Paul
Preston I prefer curly hair to be honest. Why? I don’t know really, I think its looks sexier, add something different, and usually look healthier, taken care of better I guess.
- Preston
Justin Do you need me to pick one or the other? Because I can appreciate both depending on the girl's look. I've seen situations where curly hair really doesn't suit some girls and the same thing with straight hair. I never found Kelly Rowland overly attractive until she showed up with those curls...dyam!...the curls really brought out something in her face that I never noticed before.

New from Moptop FUZZY DUCK for kids
This one is for the moms out there! Well, technically it’s for the kids, but moms will appreciate it. From our friend, Kelly Foreman of MopTop, comes a new line of kids haircare called FuzzyDuck! Four awesome products designed to tame the frizzies and keep those nasty tangles at bay, in shampoo, conditioner, gel and refresher spray. My daughter, who is 4, doesn’t have a frizz problem, but definitely gets tangles. The first time I tried it on her, there was a noticeable difference. Her hair was softer and shinier, and I didn’t have to hear “Ow!” every time the brush went through her hair!

There are no alcohols or sulfates in these, so they won’t dry out hair, and no silicones or waxes to leave a buildup. It’s all about moisture! I also love that it doesn’t smell like fruit candy, it has a nice, mild clean scent. So whether your little ones’ locks are dry, curly, unmanageable, or you just want to add some softness and shine, keep those feathers beautiful with the FuzzyDuck line! (I would personally like to thank Kelly for making my mom job just a little bit easier—every little bit helps!)

Biracial Beauties: Care for the Curls

Curly girls of the world can now unite and rejoice in a fabulous new product created specifically with our oftentimes troubled tresses in mind. Created by two multiracial women, Wendi and Kim, Mixed Chicks is the first product of its kind to address the needs of those who have hair that is a combination of several textures due to their multiracial lineage.

Mixed Chicks revolutionary new conditioner is to vie for. This alcohol-free, leave-in conditioner is a unique mixture of high quality ingredients created to combat the frizz (as well as any other unruly condition most curly girls face) and produce a head full of glossy ringlets that will keep other heads turning.

Being a multiracial curly girl myself, finding products that work for my curly, wavy, straight and frizzy hair texture has been nothing short of a mission impossible. When shopping at beauty supply stores or going to the salon, I encountered the same frustration over and over. If it was a Black product, it was entirely too oily and left my hair limp and lifeless. On the other side of the spectrum, when I used White products, they stripped my hair of its natural oils and caused my hair to take on an unruly, dry texture that looked frizzy and damaged.

Thanks to Mixed Chicks, I have finally achieved the beautiful, defined curls that I have always dreamed of. I highly recommend this incredible conditioner to anyone who has struggled with their curls and lost. The gods of glam have spoken and the answer to hair prayers is Mixed Chicks. By Linda Ripoll

Mixed-Race Duo Make Perfect Combination Say goodbye to dry or oily hair.

Two mixed-race women from Los Angeles, tired of waiting for someone to do it for them have created a leave-in conditioner aimed at women with hard-to-manage curly hair.

Wendi Levy, a full-time teacher found it hard to find products for her curly blond hair. 'There was the regular aisle for white hair, and then there was the aisle for black hair-care products,' she says. 'I would always have to blend products just to get them to work. Mixed-race individuals are the forgotten group.'

Kim Etheredge said she found white hair products a little drying and the black ones had too much oil. Both women agreed that a combination of the two would be perfect for their hair so they got together and created Mixed Chicks Leave-In conditioner specially for those with combination hair.

'There are millions of Americans whose hair is like this,' says Kim. 'Many mothers of mixed-race children are very happy with the product. Before they said they didn't know what to do with their daughter's or son's hair.'

Already a success in America, Mixed Chicks Leave-In conditioner is now being sold to Canada and Australia. Kim and Wendi say they'd love to sell to the UK and are looking for a distributor, we'll keep you posted on any developments. They are now busy working on a Mixed chicks Shampoo, in the meantime you can order Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner on their website, click here to visit.

Conditioner is right mix for biracial hair texture

By Oralandar Brand-Williams / The Detroit News

For Detroiter Rozlyn DeCharentenay, styling the red-haired locks of her 9-year-old, Thais, can be daunting. It's a matter of finding a product that can provide the right amount of oil without being overpowering.

"You don't want to use grease because it's too greasy," DeCharentenay says. "You need something that provides moisture without being greasy." Thais is biracial, and for many others like her, she has hair texture that is often referred to by mixed-race individuals as "combination hair," crosses between curly and straight as well as fine and coarse. Two women from Los Angeles -- Kim Etheredge, 34, and Wendi Levy, 36 -- have created Mixed Chicks, a leave-in conditioner aimed at women with hard-to-manage hair. "I felt that the white products are a little drying, while the black products are very heavy with oil," says Levy, whose mother is African American and father is Jewish. "If you mix the two (products), you have the perfect ratio." Having hair that is both curly and straight has been a challenge, says Etheredge, whose mom is white and dad is black. "There are millions of Americans whose hair is like this," she says. "We get a lot of white mothers are who are very happy with the product. Before they said they didn't know what to do with their daughter's or son's hair." For Levy, a full-time teacher, looking for products for her curly blond hair was often a feat in itself. "There was the regular aisle for white hair, and then there was the aisle for black hair-care products," she says. "I would always have to blend products just to get them to work. (Mixed-race individuals) are the forgotten group."
